The Cannabis Control Board announced the hiring of Cary Giguere as Compliance Director during its Wednesday, June 29th, meeting.
Mr. Giguere joins the Board’s staff with almost 30 years of regulatory experience at Vermont’s Agency of Agriculture, Food, & Markets (VAAFM) most recently as the Director of the Public Health, Agricultural Resource Management Division Director. In that role, he managed the State’s agricultural programs to protect human & environmental health and developed the Cannabis Quality Control Laboratory Certification within VAAFM’s Hemp Program. He has degrees from the University of Massachusetts in chemistry, botany, and environmental science.
“We are at a critical moment in setting the regulated cannabis market in motion, and Cary will hit the ground running,” says Board Executive Director Brynn Hare. “He brings a deep history of creating programs that ensure consumer safety and product quality, and as a member of the Board’s Advisory Committee, he played a critical role in developing the Board’s rules. The Board is thrilled that a person of his caliber will be joining us as Compliance Director.”
As Compliance Director, Mr. Giguere will manage, oversee, and coordinate all compliance and enforcement operations for the adult-use and medical cannabis programs as well as the hemp program within the state of Vermont. This includes investigating citizen complaints concerning licensed cannabis establishments, and ensuring that all licensed cannabis establishments in Vermont operate honestly, fairly, safely, and in accordance with state law and the Board’s rules. The Compliance Director will report to the Board’s Executive Director and will supervise the CCB’s team of Compliance Agents.
Cary will join the CCB’s staff in mid-July.
